The All Blacks verses France

last week the All Blacks played France for the Web Ellis Rugby World Cup. The R.W.C finals was held at Eden Park Stadium which is in Auckland.

It was a repeat of history again. The tension in the atmosphere was thick as old rivals challenged.

The haka erupted in full warrior performance as the French walked forward in a arrow formation to challenge the All Blacks. The rivalry was so strong that the French crossed the line. Then the battle began for the Web Ellis Cup.

After that it was time for the kick off. All Blacks kicked off first.

The whistle blew for kick off. It seemed to me that the All Blacks wasn't on their game plan due to mistakes. France on the other hand was on the ball and the All Blacks wasn't playing too good.

Then suddenly Tony Woodcock ran for a try. After that beautiful try Piri Weepu missed the conversion.

At the end of the game the whole crowd was cheering for the All Blacks because they won the RWC cup.

After that game I felt that the All Blacks played terrible and Piri Weepu did not kick the conversions properly.

Testing Week

How I felt about doing test:
I think doing a test is boring because it takes too long. I also feel stiff sitting in one position for a long time But when it comes to doing a test I feel nervous and pressured.

how will the test help me with my focus for this term "TO BE OR NOT TO BE"
The tests would help me by telling me what I have to work on. They would also help me in the future. Doing the test will help me to figure out what I don't know.

Spectrum through water.

Introduction:
A glass simple prism can be used to split a beam of white light into its component colors. The phenomenon due to which white light splits into component colors is called dispersion.
Question:
Can a beam of light pass through water?
Hypothesis:
My hypothesis of [Can a beam light pass through water?] is that the light will not pass through the water
Materials:
Shallow
bowl
Water
Mirror
Torch
Method:
1.Fill a shallow bowl with water.
2.Place a mirror in this shallow bowl containing water so that it is at an angle of about 30 degrees to the surface of the water.
3.Make the room dark [ Switch off all lights/cover windows with dark cloth or paper ].
4.Shine the torch on the mirror.
Note:
Do this experiment inside a dark room for a better reaction.
Observations: When a beam of light from the torch is shone on the mirror immersed in water, a small spectrum of rainbow colors appears on the ceiling.
Result:
The result was that the rainbow does appear on the ceiling.
Conclusion:
Our conclusion is that the beam of light can pass through the water and reflect off the mirror making a rainbow colour on the ceiling.
Vocabulary:
Spectrum: A band of colors produced when sunlight is passed through a prism, comprising red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
Estimated time for experiment:
The estimated time it will take less than 5 - 10 minutes.

Careers expo

Last week we went to a Careers expo to learn more about careers and what jobs are out there for us. We travelled on three buses to the ASB stadium.

When we went through the entrance the place looked big and awesome. When we walked around Johnny and I went to the engineering display. That was the first career we went to. The man who was standing waiting for us was handsome, he had a nice suit on. We asked him how much he gets paid a week and he said they get paid 2 to 3 thousand a week.

The next area we went to was the police area. They had a spotless uniform on. We spoke to one of them and we asked him how much they get a year and he said they get about 40 thousand a year. When I heard that I was fascinated.

Suddenly when me and Johnny were walking around Mrs Parker-Tofa told us that we were about to leave soon. Johnny and I went back to the entrance and sat down next to our class. When I sat down my mates and I started talking about the information we had gathered during the time of the expo.

When we had finished all that talking we had to line up in one line so we could start walking to the bus. While we boarded the bus all of us started talking again.

While I was at the careers expo I felt good looking at all the jobs and careers that were out there for me. When I went to a display there were people there asking questions so I had to go to another display. At the end the day I still gathered the information I needed.

Term 1 Reflection

Term 1 this year was awesome because room 1 had good luck to have the netbooks before the other classes in the whole school.

The negatives for this term was that I did not make it into the softball team. That made me sad but I still felt confident.

The positives were that we had fun working on our own little laptops. It helps us learn more and the netbook helps us type faster. We go on Internet to research our information about heroes.

Next term I think is going to be better. Fingers crossed.

The Maori new year is marked by the rise of Matariki and the sighting of the next new moon. The pre-dawn rise of Matariki can be seen in the last few days of May every year and the new year is marked at the sighting of the next new moon which occurs during June. This recently occured on 5 June 2008.

How is Matariki celebrated?
Matariki is celebrated with education, remembrance and the planting of new trees and crops signaling new beginnings. Matariki was the optimum time for new harvests and ceremonial offerings to the land based gods Rongo, Uenuku and Whiro to ensure good crops for the coming year. It was also seen as a perfect time to learn about the land we live on and to remember whakapapa (ancestry) who have passed from this world to the next and the legacy they left behind\\

Why is Matariki important?
Traditionally, depending on the visibility of Matariki, the coming season's crop was thought to be determined. The brighter the stars indicated the warmer the season would be and more productive crop. It was also seen as an important time for family to gather and reflect on the past and the future.

Our beautiful breakfast

Today our class went to room 14 to have breakfast. We had weet-bix with milk and sugar to make it sweet and taste delicious. After all that weet-bix we had some toast. It was fun eating with your friends. Having breakfast makes you have a good day. It gives your body energy to last for the whole day.
